Margaret Harrell

Fayette County, Indiana

Margaret Harrell was a daughter of pioneer, Chester Harrell and his second wife Betsy Stevens.  Margaret was born around 1800 and on December 9, 1819, she married Isaac Brown.

2. EDITHA5 BROWN (MARGARET "PEGGY"4 HARRELL, CHESTER3, WILLIAM2, RICHARD1) was born 14 Oct 1824 in Fairfield, Franklin, Indiana, and died 11 Oct 1921 in Dublin, Wayne County, Indiana. She married JESSE HUDDLESTON.

 

Notes for EDITHA BROWN:

Samuel Huddleston wrote that his parents did not believe in education. He said that Edithe said that, "education made a person lazy, bigheaded and wicked." She was a hardshell Baptist and sent Sam to live with relatives away from anyone of "other than the Baptist faith." Sam said that when he married Sarah that she taught him to read and write and it appears that he nver stopped. According to his biography he wrote for several magazines and newspapers in Indiana. Sarah was the daughter of Lieuzenia Spencer and her first husband, James S. Johnson. James had died with Sarah was only two years old.

Charles Brown descends from Margaret and Isaac Brown. Charles shared this photo of their son, Nathaniel (Jan 1828-May 1888) in his Civil War Uniform. Nathaniel was later a Methodist Minister.
