The Stone Family of Benton County, Indiana and Dade County, Missouri

Joseph S. Stone was born in 1826 in Kentucky and his wife, Sarah Helen Lacey, was born about 1834 in New Jersey. In the 1860, 1870, and 1880 census, they were living in Benton County, Indiana with children, Thomas, Joseph L., George, Sarah, Francis, Mahala, Rebecca and Edwin. Thomas was Joseph's son from his first marriage to Nancy Foudray. Nancy died sometime between 1850 and 1854. Joseph married Sarah Lacey on July 16, 1854.

The Stone family eventually moved to Barton and Dade Counties, Missouri. Two of their daughters, Sarah E. and Rebecca, married Marlow brothers.

Joseph died February 3, 1917, and Sarah died in 1918. They are buried at Pippenger Cemetery (New Bethel) northwest of Lockwood, Missouri. They are buried between their daughters, who had married James and George N. Marlow.
