Johann Diedrich Willers was born November 12, 1840, at Hollwege. He was the son of Siefke Willers and wife, Anna Margarette Meinen. Johann married Anna Elisabeth Hupens October 19, 1869 in Westerstede. Anna was the daughter of Johann Friedrich Hupens and wife Gesche Sophie Lamken. Johann Willers died January 30, 1914 and wife Anna died February 7, 1907.

Three of the Willers children remained in Germany, living around Hollwege and Moorburg. Georg Willers became a professor and lived near Kiel in far northern Germany. The two oldest brothers immigrated to the United States.
