Hupens family of Bronaugh

John and Henriette Hupens

Johann Friedrich Hupens was born in northern Germany, near Moorburg, on May 30, 1876. He married Henriette Siems who had been born September 26, 1891. They came to America and lived west of Bronaugh. John immigrated in 1902 and was naturalized in 1908. Hennie immigrated in 1912 and was naturalized in 1913.

The 1920 Harrison Township Census (Vernon County, MO) listed the family:

  • John Hupens age 44, born in Moorburg, Germany
  • Henriette Hupens, age 28, born Westerstede, Germany
  • Bernhard Hupens, age 5, born Missouri
  • Helen, age 3 4/12, born Missouri

Two more daughters were born later, Marie and Martha.

John's grandparents were Johann Friedrich and Gesche Sophie Lamken Hupens, who were also parents of Anna Elisabeth Hupens, wife of Johann Diedrich Willers. The older Johann Friedrich Hupens was the son of Siefke Hupens. Siefke had a daughter, Wupke Hupens, who was the wife of Frederick Brunken. Frederich and Wupke were the parents of Gerhard Brunken.

John Hupens died January 25, 1952 and was buried at Worsley Cemetery.

Henriette died May 10, 1984. Her funeral was held at the Bronaugh Methodist Church with Rev. Henry Flessner presiding.

Marie Hupens

Henriette Hupens on the left and probably John Hupens on the far right. We assume their children are in the photo. The man in overalls appears to be John Saathoff and the girl on the porch (light hair) is his daughter, Louise. The porch appears to possibly be that of the John Saathoff family.
