The Vernon County Agricultural and Mechanical Association sponsored a fair, October 5 - 7, 1869. The fairground was located east of the town of Nevada City, the county seat. At that time, the town was often referred to as Nevada City, rather than Nevada. The farigrounds were on a raised ten acre location. The fair was large, when one considers Vernon County's recent history. Of course, much of the county had been absolutely devastated before, during, and after the Civil War. Surprisingly this was the fourth annual fair held in the county.
The officers of the Vernon County Agricultural and Mechanical Association were:
Harvey Karnes, PresidentC. R. Scott, Secretary
L. D. Roberts, Treasurer
The Directors were, R. G. Bryan, Enoch Yates, Albert Badger, J. L. Nichols, and T. H. Austin.
