Wheelock family of Moundville

The Moundville Register reported that Mrs. Mary O. Wheelock had died in July, 1887. She was the seventy-eight year old mother of W. W. Wheelock and Mrs. M. F. Fitzpatrick. Mrs. Wheelock had been a Vernon County resident for sixteen years. Her memoriam told that she had been born on April 23, 1809 in Bradford County, Pennsylvania and had died on July 20, 1887. She had been married to Elias Wheelock Sr. in 1833 at Ithaca, New York. In 1856, the family moved to Carroll County, Illinois and in 1870 they moved to their final home three miles south of Moundville. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. She and her husband were parents of seven children. One of them, Mrs. J. M. Fitzpatrick lived at Moundville when her mother died. Mrs. Wheelock was buried at Welborn Cemetery.

 

Rick Sullivan wrote: "This Mary Wheelock buried in Moundville is Mary Overton Rice, born in Avon Springs, NY (per "The Wights", A Record of Thomas Wight of Dedham and Medfield And Of His Descendants 1635-1890", by William Ward Wight, Swain & Tate Printers, 1890). She married Elias Mann Wheelock 23 Mar 1833, Newfield, Tompkins Co, NY (per "The Wights"). She had at least seven children, one of whom was Mary Elizabeth Wheelock, husband of James Montgomery Fitzpatrick. You can read more about this family at the Wheelock family site."
