Selim and Garton Families of Moundville, Missouri

Maria L. Selim died April 19, 1928. Burial at Welborn Cemetery. Maria was born September 20, 1856 to Carl Blaud or Blaude and wife.

Her husband was Andrew P. Selim, (1853 - 1937)

Before coming to Missouri, the family is found in the 1895 Iowa State Census in Adair County, Orient Township:

  • Andrew Selim, age 41, born Sweden
  • Mary L. Selim, age 38, born Sweden
  • Eddie A. Selim, age 11, born Adair County, Iowa
  • Amil Selim, age 9, born Adair County, Iowa
  • Elmer Selim, age 7, born Adair County, Iowa
  • Mable Selim, age 8, born Adair County, Iowa
  • Charlie Selim, age 24, born Sweden
  • David Selim age 20, born Sweden

The 1900 Federal census listed the family with two more children in Adair County, Iowa, Orient Township:

  • Andrew Selim, born June 1853 in Sweden
  • Mary L. Selim, bprm September 1856 in Sweden
  • Edward A. Selim, born November 1883 in Iowa
  • Amil Selim, born August 1885 in Iowa
  • Elmer Selim, born August 1887 in Iowa
  • Mable Selim, born August 1889 in Iowa
  • Arthur Selim, born January 1892 in Iowa
  • Mayme Selim, born June 1896 in Iowa

Nancy Thompson tells that the 11 children born to William D. & Josephine Shaw Garton were:

  • William E. 'Willie', Jan 1890 (who married Mable Selim, above) - Thats why these two families are here together.
  • Alfred Albert, Jun 1891
  • Lota/Leta, Apr 1893
  • Robert, Mar 1895

This scan shows William D. Garton with the younger four children. Josephine had died in 1903.

Mabel Selim, Arthur Selim, Alta Howard, Mae Folks and boys, Clestine McDonald.

Donna Pearson Price wrote: "I do have this photo but it was a mystery because I didn't know who these other people with Clestine were! Clestine married James Garfield Allen. Clestine is the one smiling on the lower right, holding one of the twins, with Alta Howard's hands on her shoulder."
