John Irwin and his sons, Morton and John, lived near Darrtown, Butler County, Ohio. Several of their descendants moved across the state line into Franklin and Union counties in Indiana.
Robert L. Irwin, the youngest son of Morton and Anna Crawford Irwin, was a merchant in the village of Fairfield. His first wife was Kate Sims, who was a daughter of pioneer resident, John Sims. They were the parents of two sons, George and Lewis. After Kate's death, Robert married Margaret Burke. They had one daughter, Katie. Following Margaret's death, Robert married his third wife, Marilla Buckley. They were the parents of four children, Lucy, Anna, Anson , and Robert (my ancestor). The family usually lived near Fairfield, but sometimes near College Corner, Billingsville, and Bath. Robert and Marilla and family moved to Moundville, Vernon County, Missouri in 1903. Robert died there in 1905.
An early daguerrotype photo of Robert L. Irwin |
This tin-type is unidentified. However, I have no doubt that the man is Robert L. Irwin. The lady has to be one of his first wives. So I assume that this is the marriage photo of Robert and Kate Sims. |
