John Donaldson was born in September,
1870 in Missouri. The 1880 Montgomery County, MO census
lists him with his parents:
- Wm. Donaldson, age 43, born
Pennsylvania
- Mary E. Donaldson, age 38, born
Virginia
- Lucinda A. Donaldson, age 20,
born Missouri
- John W. Donaldson, age 9, born
Missouri
John Donaldson and Leona Landon were
married on October 8, 1896 in Moundville. Leona was the
daughter of Merrill
and Hattie Terpening Landon.
Leona attended Cooper College. They operated the funeral
home in Moundville for many years.
In 1900, the Vernon County census
told that he had been married four years. His wife, Leona,
was born in July, 1874, also in Missouri. Their daughter was
Fanchion D. Donaldson who had been born in August, 1897.
William Donaldson, age 63, was listed as head of household
and father of John. William had been born in
Pennsylvania.
The family was still living in
Moundville in 1910 and had another daughter, Anna, who was
born May 21, 1901.

The Ward's
and Donaldson's were close friends. John Donaldson
and Claude Ward graduated together and also sang in
the same Methodist
Church
Quartet.
John Donaldson died August
1, 1947 in Moundville. His death certificate tells
that he was born in Louisiana, MO on September 1,
1870 to William Donaldson and his wife Mary
Gillingswater Donaldson. Ferry Funeral handled the
funeral arrangments.

Leona died on August 15, 1973 at the
age of 100.
John and Leona are buried at Welborn
Cemetery, northwest of Moundville. Their dates
are:
